Hoya cv. Sunrise

This cultivar is a cross by Michael Miyashiro between H. lacunosa subsp. pallidiflora X H. obscura in 1992, Hawaii.

Leaves are elliptic with acute tips, very similar to H. lacunosa, but with the venation and the tendency to bronze in high light as with H. obscura. The leaf size: 75mm long25mm wide/55mm long 15mm wide.

The flowers resemble both parents: white, revolute, in a flat umbel, turning pink where exposed to light like H. obscura.

This cultivar is a vigorous grower and prolific bloomer with a very sweet scent.

There is no record of the distribution of seedlings. However, this cultivar was distributed by Exotic Angel Nurseries in 2003 labeled “Hoya”.

Herbarium specimen Noel #002 is being deposited at the US Herbarium, Smithsonian Institution.

Hoya cv. Christine

This cultivar is a suspected cross between H. subquintuplinervis X H. pottsii, hybridized by Michael Miyashiro in 1998, Hawaii.

The leaves (120mm longX85mm wide/100mm long X 60mm wide) are fleshy like H. subquintuplinervis, elliptic with cuspidate apex. Internodes are very short and the growth habit is extremely compact, in the manner of H. subquintuplinervis. Margins are slightly recurved, the both sides of the leaf slightly pubescent with prominent venation.

Peduncles are produced at nearly every node and this cultivar blooms prolifically. The flowers are very sweetly scented, an ivory white reflexed corolla and corona with pink centers in a hemispherical umbel.

There is no record of the distributions of seedlings. This hybrid has been called H. cv. Thailandica (hort.)

Herbarium specimen Noel #003 is being deposited at the US Herbarium at Smithsonian Institution.

Hoya cv. Joy

This cultivar, by Michael Miyashiro, Hawaii, is a suspected cross between an unidentified species from Laos X H. vitellina.

The leaves of this cultivar are 180mm long X 120mm wide/100mm long X 80mm wide, elliptic with an obtuse base and a cuspidate tip. Leaf is glabrous on top with a pillowing between veins and it is slightly recurved; the underside of the leaf is slightly pubescent with the costa and secondary veins quite prominent. The tops of the leaves are bumpy, with faint silver flecking and a metallic sheen. Leaves are margined in deep red.

It is an active bloomer, hemispherical umbels, flowers with greenish yellow strongly recurved corollas and deep pink coronas, with a pleasant scent.

There are no records of the distributions of seedlings. This cultivar has been circulated with the wrong label of H. cv. Metallica (hort.).

Herbarium specimen Noel #004 is being deposited at the US Herbarium at the Smithsonian Institution.

Hoya cv. Iris Marie

This hybridization occurred at Liddles Nursery in Australia between H. cembra X H. schneei. The growth habit of this cultivar resembles that of H. cembra and measure approx 65mm long X 35mm wide.

Corollas are white and pubescent. The corona is deep pink with white apexes. Few flowers are produced per umbel, they are extremely fragrant and it blooms often.

Leaves are elliptic with an obtuse base and a long acuminate tip. Leaves approx. 65mm long X 35mm wide. New growth is bronze.

There are no records of the distribution of seedlings. This hybrid was misidentified as H. paziae by D. Kloppenburg and featured as such in World of Hoyas.

Herbarium specimen Noel # 005 is being deposited at the US Herbarium at the Smithsonian Institution.

Hoya cv. Noelle

This cultivar, by Michael Miyashiro , Hawaii, is a suspected cross between H. vitellinoides X H. vitellina.

The leaves measuring 130mm long X 100mm wide/100mm long X 65mm wide, are elliptic with cuspidate tip and obtuse base. Margins are recurved and the whole leaf is concaved on the bottom and slightly pubescent.. The top of the leaf is quite glabrous and roughly textured.

This cultivar is an active bloomer in the warm months and a vigorous grower, umbels hemispherical with flowers with recurved corollas of a light chartreuse color and light pink coronas with yellow centers.

There are no records of the distribution of seedlings. This hybrid has been called H. cv. VitVit (hort.)

Herbarium specimen Noel #006 is being deposited at the US Herbarium at the Smithsonian Institution.

Hoya cv. Jennifer

Suspected cross H.incrassata X H. finlaysonii. Other seedlings from the same grex are in circulation, with very similar leaf markings (varying in the apexes) and similar flowers. The cultivar was hybridized and grown by Michael Miyashiro in 1995.

Leaves are oblanceolate with acuminate tip, 180mm long75mm wide/165mm long65mm wide. Slightly pubescent with costa prominent on underside. Veins are very conspicuous dark green on a dark (but lighter) green base.

Corolla recurved white with red tips, corona white.

Herbarium specimen Noel #001 is being deposited at the US Herbarium, Smithsonian Institution.

Hoya cv. Mrs. G

This cultivar is a suspected seedling of H. australis subsp. keysii out of a nursery in Oregon. As H. australis subsp. keysii was the only hoya in bloom at the time, suspicions are rather certain.

H. cv. Mrs. G's leaves have the same slight pubesence on the very dark green upper side as the suspected parent. The bottoms of the leaves are more pubescent, a lighter green, a prominent costa and slightly recurved margins. The leaves are elliptic with a cuspidate tip 100mm long x 60 wide/80mm long x 45mm wide

Flowers are as H. australis subsp. keysii flowers are in shape, form and color and the fragrance is strong. The cultivar blooms often with many long lasting flowers, and tends to bloom earlier than H. australis subsp. keysii.

This cultivar has been in circulation for a number of years as Hoya 'Mrs. G' and prior to this writing, has not been published.

Herbarium specimen Noel #007 is being deposited at the US Herbarium, Smithsonian Institution.
