| About Big Island Growers |
| The 'Big Island' of Hawaii is situated about 20 degrees north of the equator (further south than the
Florida Keys), and has a range of climates from near desert to steamy tropical jungle to cool mountain
rain forests. It is an ideal environment for growing almost anything.
|
 |
| Sugar cane and pineapples are gone from here leaving specialty agriculture as our largest industry.
As you drive the highways and back roads of the Island of Hawaii, you see rolling fields of dracaena,
nurseries of exotic trees, hothouses full of orchids. Visit the weekend markets in any small town and
you will find small growers selling tropicals many folks have never seen or heard of at prices that will make you drool.
|
 |
| Big Island Growers is essentially a venue for the hundreds of small to medium size growers of tropical
plants to get their products out on the Internet where the connected world can see them and purchase
safely online. We simply provide each grower with an easy way to post a home page and a complete catalog
with photographs, descriptions and pricing.
|
 |
| Several searching features are available that make it easy for customers to find a particular plant in
amongst the thousands of plants that are listed. Many gardeners will spend hours just wandering through
the site and dreaming. Others will use the online shopping cart to easily put together an order, and
then get out the shovel while they wait for the delivery truck.
|
| Wholesale buyers are not left out of the picture. If you own a legitimate nursery or resale operation,
register as a 'Wholesaler'. We will check your credentials and then give our registered growers the
opportunity to offer you a wholesale discount.
|
| Big Island Growers is a venue, not a seller. When you place an order, we just transmit that order to
the grower. While we make an effort to vet our members, we do not assume responsibility for the
fulfillment aspects such as quality, quantity, condition on receipt, etc. That is between you and
the grower you buy from. A further note about the photographs in the catalogs. Each grower puts together
its own catalog and is responsible for any copyright issues on the photographs used.
